A British woman, Karen Conaghan, sued her former employer for not getting a farewell card when she left the company. In court, she discovered her colleagues did buy her a card, but only three people signed it, so they didn’t bother giving it to her. The judge ruled that she had a “conspiracy-theory mentality” and misinterpreted everyday workplace interactions—like thinking someone copied her because they wrote “whizz” in a card, similar to her “whiz.”
