Reader loves a mini getaway

Reader here!

Isn’t it fun to take a trip somewhere, and stay in a hotel or motel?

It doesn’t even have to be to a big city, to feel like an adventure.  Just last week, I spent a few days in Langenburg on location, for the Sporting Dreams Lotto.  And to save driving back and forth each day, I stayed at the Country Inn Motel.

It was great!  Nice and comfy, and I had a great sleep each night!

The great thing about staying in a hotel, is that it’s a nice little getaway, a change in the routine, and I don’t have to tidy up after myself, or make the bed.  The friendly staff take care of that for me!

That said, I’m not one of those people who make a huge mess and then leave the room looking like a hurricane blew through town.  I mean, what kind of jerk do you think I am?

I’ve had lots of fun (and not so fun) moments in hotels over the years, from sneaking friends in and out of hotel rooms on band trips, to my very first time getting drunk, at a cousin’s wedding in Medicine Hat.  (Thanks, Uncle Herb – the hangover was horrendous!)

Back in 2017, me, along with my brothers Ward and Barrett made the trip to Edmonton, to see MetallicA on their Worldwired Tour at Commonwealth Stadium.  When we got into the Alberta capital, we went to the hotel we had a room booked at.  A friend of Ward’s worked there, and booked us a room.  But, when we got there, we found the room had actually been reserved for the FOLLOWING night, so after the show, we did some scrambling and found a room out in Fort Saskatchewan.  I can’t remember the exact hotel, but there are two things I do remember from there.

Firstly, I could not sleep.  I tossed and turned in bed, then moved down to the floor, thinking a different spot might help me crash out.  No dice.  I was wide awake.  So I didn’t get any sleep that night.  On the upside, I was up and able to partake in the greatest breakfast buffet of all-time.

Perogies, sausage, hash browns, bacon, cereal, toast, and FRIED eggs!  Usually, you get eggs at a buffet, and they’re the classic watery, cold plain ol’ scrambled eggs.  But no way.  Not here.  It’s the first and only places I’ve ever seen fried eggs at a buffet, and better yet, they were overeasy… just the way I like ’em!

Of course, I had to snap a photo!

I love a mini holiday to a hotel!  They’re a great chance to unwind, and feel a little bit pampered.  Sometimes, you’ve got to treat yourself!

Here now, to see us off, a little bit of MetallicA from that August 16, 2017 show in Edmonton.  The webcast the show live on YouTube that night, and here it is, in its entirety!  Enjoy!  My brothers and I were down in the Snake Pit!  What a show, and what a trip!
