Reader here, back from another three great days in Langenburg!
I spent Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of last week back at the Langenburg Town Office, for the final push to get tickets on the first-ever Sporting Dreams Lotto, and it was an absolute pleasure!
For about two years now, the Fundraising committee has been raising money to build a new Multiplex in Langenburg, to serve the town and surrounding area. And this year, they decided to take things to the next level, with the lottery!
The existing arena has been serving Langenburg and area since the 1950s, and over the years, it has needed repairs and upgrades to keep it running. But it’s reaching the point where it makes more sense to replace, rather than repair.
This is where the dream of the Multiplex came from.
- This is what the town is looking to build…
- And here is a conceptual blueprint of the proposed Multiplex!
The new facility will have a regulation-size ice surface, allowing the community to host more games and tournaments. As well, the Multiplex will include a walking track, allowing residents to get their steps in, in climate-controlled comfort. And a major feature of the new facility will include an indoor community space, that can be utilized 12 months a year, to host everything from pickleball and indoor soccer, to trade shows, cabarets and weddings.
It will be an amazing facility when it’s completed!
And for the first-ever lottery, wow, did the community step up to show its support, to help make it happen!
First off, thank you so much to Director of Sport, Leisure, Culture and Promotions JoAnn McDonnell and the fantastic group of volunteers who manned the phones, selling tickets, keeping things running smooth, and keeping us laughing the entire three days. We had so much fun!
- It was great to see the phone lines so busy!
- If the phone rings, just grab it… wherever it might be!
- Me and the captain, Langenburg’s Director of Sport, Leisure, Culture and Promotion, JoAnn McDonnell!
The main prize draws were held Saturday night at the Langenburg Community Hall, and unfortunately, none of MY tickets were pulled, but that’s totally okay! If you missed the draw, here it is!
Once again, congratulations to the grand prize winner, Allan Parker of Rocanville, along with second prize winner Bryan Unchelenko of Esterhazy, third prize winner Kerry Gilroy of Estevan, and Warren Schappert of Langenburg, who was the lucky winner of the 50/50 draw, taking home $26,650. Warren was also kind enough to donate $5,000 of his winnings back to the Multiplex project – very cool!
It was a fantastic three days, and I’m already looking forward to heading back for next year’s lotto!
