The City of Melville and CUPE Local 456 will meet at the bargaining table again this week to negotiate an agreement involving 32 city workers.
The next mediation session is set to take place tomorrow (Wed).
CUPE 456 national representative Dylan Breland says the union is asking the city to provide a wage increase for city workers to keep up with inflation costs and to address the high levels of turnover seen in the past few years.
Mayor Joe Kirwan says they hope they can reach an agreement soon.
The collective agreement between the City of Melville and CUPE456 expired on December 31, 2023, and bargaining between the employer and the union has been ongoing since March 2024
