Swan Valley Stampeders see early lead slip away in third straight loss at Dauphin

The Swan Valley Stampeders let an early lead slip away as they dropped their third straight, a 5-2 road decision to the Dauphin Kings on Tuesday night.

The Stampeders got off to a quick start as 7:24 into the first, Dobie Unrau’s side angle squeaked through the glove of Cole Sheffield for his fourth of the season to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Ben Groome added to the Swan Valley lead just under four minutes later for his 10th to give them a two goal lead through 20 minutes.

In the second period the Kings took over as they outshot the Stamps 22-10 and scored three off the sticks of Naeman Hofer, Ty Pratte and Cayden Glover to take the lead entering the final frame.

The Kings added some insurance just over halfway through the third on a beauty from Gavin Nemis before newcomer Nolan Masson iced it into the empty net for his 1st MJHL goal to seal the victory.

Kings’ netminder Cole Sheffield made 33 saves on 35 shots to earn his 20th win of the season, while Rowan White in the Stampeder net made 45 stops.

The Stampeders return to action on Friday night hosting the Portage Terriers, while the Kings on Friday visit the Winkler Flyers
