Hey, everybody! Reader here!
Well, it’s Christmas Eve, and I get a couple of days off to celebrate the holidays, though it’ll be a blur, and not the most relaxing Christmas season I’ve had, but that’s totally okay.
After work today, I’ll be firing up the tunes and hitting the road, to make the 4 to 4-1/2 hour road trip to the farm just west of Conquest, for our smaller Christmas day celly. As far as I know, it’ll just be me, my Mom and Dad, my youngest brother Barrett and his wife Claudia at home on the 25th.
I’ll definitely be listening to this one. One of my favourites, by Anthony Hamilton.
My two other brothers will be celebrating with the other half of their respective families on Christmas Day, but we’ll still be able to get together in a couple of days.
After celebrating at the farm on the 25th, I’ll make the drive back to Yorkton in the afternoon on Boxing Day, as I have to work my usual shift on the 27th.
Then, when my shift is done on Friday, I’ll be hitting the road once again, driving to Saskatoon, where we’ll be having our full family celebration on Saturday.
As the years go by, it take a little bit more planning to get us all together, but it’s always worth it, when we get me, my brothers and their families and Mom and Dad all together under one roof. Even if we don’t celebrate on December 25th, as long as we can get together for a day somewhere, that’s all we need.
It especially makes me happy to see all of my nieces and nephew together. Uncle Craig doesn’t get to see them all nearly as often as I’d like to, so Christmas is always a bit more special.
Then, as quick as we all get together on Saturday, I’ll head back to Yorkton on Sunday, and back to work as normal on Monday.
But in the end, it’s not how much time you have to spend together, it’s HOW you spend that time together.
And on behalf of my entire family, I wish you all the Merriest Christmas ever, full of family, friends, faith and food. Be safe, and I’ll talk to you all on Friday morning!
Oh, and since it IS Christmas Eve, it wouldn’t be right to send you into the big day with this classic from one of my heroes… It’s Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong’s timeless take on “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Enjoy!
