Hey, everybody! Reader here, and this past Friday night was a big night, as after months of anticipation, we gathered with our qualifiers at the Painted Hand Casino Event Centre, for the VIP bash, as we crowned a winner for Cruz FM’s “5K the Easy Way!”
I know I was excited to get the show on the road!
The doors of the Event Centre opened at 6 p.m., and our qualifiers didn’t waste any time in making their way inside.
While waiting for the draw to begin, our qualifiers and their guests were able to enjoy some great refreshments, including some fantastic appetizers, catered by the great crew at the Painted Hand Casino.
After the doors closed shortly before 7 p.m., the draw itself got underway at the top of the hour.
We did “5K the Easy Way” for the first time last year, and we followed the same rules this time around, as we didn’t just simply pull one name out of the draw drum and declare them the winner. Where’s the fun in that? No, sir. This draw was an ELIMINATION draw!
What does that mean? Simply put, it means that one by one, we’d draw names out of the drum, and if your name was pulled, unfortunately, it meant you were eliminated, and you wouldn’t be going home with the $5,000 prize.
Grayson and I proceeded to draw names from the barrel, until we were down to the final two.
The next name pulled was the last person eliminated, however, he didn’t go home empty-handed. He won a DVD of a horror movie from the early 2000’s, which I’m sure he’ll enjoy, especially as halloween draws near!
In the end, one name was left in the draw drum, and I had the pleasure of announcing that Alfred Kotyk of Rama was our $5,000 grand prize winner!
After the draw was made, Alfred joined Grayson and I on the air, to chat about his big win.
It was so much fun to be able to give away the grand prize to Alfred, who can’t ever say that Friday the 13th is an unlucky day!
So, Cruz FM’s “5K the Easy Way” is in the books. There are a lot of people to thank, that helped us make it happen.
