Hey, everybody! Reader here, and on Saturday night, I made my way to Westland Insurance Arena, to catch the Yorkton Terriers in action against one of the SJHL’s top teams, the Melfort Mustangs.
There was a lot happening – not only was it a Saturday night home game, but it was also Fan Appreciation Night, with a ton of fan giveaways, and the club was also holding its annual Teddy Bear Toss, to provide some smiles for local children this Christmas season.
After the first period, I got to fire off the Fox FM T-Shirt Cannon!
After the period ended, I headed out onto the ice, and started firing away, and I only put one into the glass!
After that, I had a bunch of swag, ranging from Fox FM water bottles, lip gloss, drink koozies and toques, and it didn’t take long to find takers for all of it!
The Terriers trailed 2-0 after the first, and went down 3-zip early in the second, before Terriers’ forward Brett Butz scored on the power play, to put the home side on the board, and cueing a shower of stuffed animals from the bleachers!
In all, the team collected just shy of 300 stuffed animals and more than $200 dollars in donations from programs, with it all going to the Yorkton Salvation Army, to help local kids have a Merry Christmas!
In the end, the outcome wasn’t quite what Terrier fans were hoping for…
Despite the Terriers coming out on the wrong end of a 4-3 final, (and me not winning the 50/50), I still had a blast.
It’s tough to beat a Saturday night at the good ol’ hockey game!
